Talks

List of talks and their abstracts will be placed here the week of the event.

  • 18:00-18:40 - Profiling for Fun and Profit by Stephen Toub (see Stephen’s bio at Update Conference)
    • Abstract:
      • You’ve all written code. You’ve all debugged code. How many of you have profiled code? Profiling is an essential tool in a professional dev’s tool belt yet very few dev’s realize how easy and beneficial it can be. In this casual discussion, we’ll examine a random library, find bottlenecks, and fix them.
    • About speaker: Architect of .NET Libraries. Focuses on performance and AI lately. Co-author of async.

  • 18:40-19:20 - Clarity as a perspective by Kathleen Dollard (see Kathleen’s bio at Update Conference)
    • Abstract:
      • It’s wonderful being a programmer or other member of the tech community. Machines do not carry the emotional baggage of humans. We also help shape the code we work on and bring the context, intent, and purpose. Maximizing clarity becomes even more important as AI becomes part of the long term maintenance of our applications.
    • About speaker: Worked as Program Manager on design of languages - C#, VB, F#. Author of blog articles and books.

  • 19:20-20:00 - Let’s talk about debugging by Kevin Gosse (see Kevin’s bio at Update Conference)
    • Abstract:
      • All developers spend a significant amount of time investigating and fixing bugs, Yet, we rarely talk about it, let alone teach it. What’s so special about debugging?
    • About speaker: Performance expert, works at JetBrains on ReSharper perf.
